Chapter 2: THE Builder

Mike Donahue (1904-1922): Mike Donahue is one of the most influential figures in Auburn football history. During his 18-year tenure, Donahue established Auburn as a powerhouse in the South.

Winning Tradition: Under Donahue's leadership, Auburn enjoyed a winning tradition, capturing multiple conference titles and achieving a remarkable win-loss record of 104-39-5.

1913 Undefeated Season: Donahue's 1913 team remains iconic in Auburn history, achieving an undefeated season and being retroactively declared national champions.

The Tiger Walk Tradition was started by Donahue and has sole credit for starting this beloved tradition on campus. Tiger Walk is when team walks through a crowd of passionate Auburn fans before each home game starting at the old Sewell Hall all the way to the stadium gates.

Chapter 3: The Shug Jordan Era

Ralph "Shug" Jordan (1951-1975): Coach Jordan's tenure as Auburn's head coach was marked by a dedication to excellence and the development of a strong football culture.

Winningest Coach: Shug Jordan holds the record for the most wins as Auburn's head coach, with an impressive record of 176-83-7.

1957 National Championship: Jordan led Auburn to its first national championship in 1957, a historic moment in the program's history.

Iron Bowl Rivalry: Under Jordan's guidance, the Iron Bowl rivalry with Alabama gained prominence, becoming one of college football's most intense rivalries.

Chapter 4: Restoring Glory

Pat Dye (1981-1992): Coach Dye's arrival marked a turning point for Auburn football, as he restored the team to national prominence.

Four SEC Championships: Dye's tenure included four SEC championships, solidifying Auburn as a force in the Southeastern Conference.

Iron Bowl Success: Dye's teams achieved notable success in the Iron Bowl, including a streak of nine consecutive wins against Alabama.

The Dye-Gest: Dye's influential newsletter, "The Dye-Gest," offered insight into his coaching philosophy and thoughts on the team.

Chapter 5: The Modern Era Coaches

The modern era of Auburn football has witnessed a succession of coaches who have maintained the program's competitive edge.

Tommy Tuberville (1999-2008): Tuberville led Auburn to an undefeated season in 2004, with the team narrowly missing out on a national championship. Coach Tuberville will always be remembered by all Auburn fan's as the coach that had Alabama's number with five consecutive wins over the Tide.

Gene Chizik (2009-2012): Chizik's tenure reached its pinnacle in 2010 when Auburn won the BCS National Championship, thanks in large part to quarterback Cam Newton.

Gus Malzahn (2013-2020): Malzahn's innovative offensive strategies and memorable wins, including the "Kick Six" in the 2013 Iron Bowl, endeared him to Auburn fans.

Hugh Freeze (2022-present): Freeze, the current head coach, took the job in late 2022 running full speed. With the task of cleaning up the mess Coach (loose term) Bryan Harsin caused in less than two years, Freeze landed more top recruits in just a few months than Harsin did over two years. Coach Freeze's confidence, processes, and goals & objectives he has laid out, will surely put Auburn football where it belongs - as one of the premier teams in the SEC and the nation! His arrival brings anticipation of new chapters in Auburn's football history.

The history of Auburn Tiger football coaches is a testament to the program's enduring commitment to excellence...and WINNING. From the early pioneers who introduced the sport of football to Auburn to the modern era coaches who have propelled the Tigers to national prominence, each coach has contributed, in their own ways, to the rich tapestry of the program's history.

As Auburn football continues to evolve and thrive, the legacy of these coaches lives on, inspiring current and future generations of players and fans. They have not only left their mark on the field but have also shaped the very essence of what it means to be an Auburn Tiger. WAR EAGLE!
